A triathletes paradise it is: an indoor 25 m lap pool and outdoor, heated 25 m lap pool, open water swimming in the ocean, hundreds of miles of road cycling with flats, hills and mountains and running trails along the coast. All at one resort. These are just some reasons why the Swiss National Triathlon Team has chosen this location as their spring training location. Guests who have come here include KONA winners Natasha Badman and Thomas Hellriegel, 2000 Olympic Champion Brigitte McMahon, IRONMAN winner Olivier Bernhard and Duathlon World Champion Urs Dellsperger.
But even more exciting is what EuroCycler can offer you as a triathlon guest every Spring. Our specialist coaching team has designed a group-coaching program that allows every guest to make advances in all three disciplines within a week.
Each day, guests choose from the three training disciplines. The groups are organized based on comparable abilities and a skill assessment. Swimming: technique training in one of the lap pools or open water swimming. Bicycle Riding: A different route every day, with increasing challenging distances and terrains as the week goes on. Running: Technique training, on- and off-road running. Each training group is led by an experienced English-speaking guide who will offer helpful advice and encouragement, and we use videos for swim, bike position, and gate analysis.

7 days, novice athletes
7 days, intermediate athletes
During the evening, guests have additional opportunities to improve their game by attending presentations on training, nutrition, equipment and more. Of course, some of the best learning will simply happen by chatting with and observing some of your fellow athletes. It's a unique opportunity to swap tips, talk technique and maybe even make some lifelong friends.
A unique feature of the EuroCycler triathlon program is CAVEMAN, a short distance race held on and around the resort as part of most weeks (weather, skill level permitting). For some it's the first race ever, for some a training race to get familiarized again with the discipline of transitioning and pacing, but for most it's the first race of the season. An average finisher time is about one and a half hour. The Swim is in the open sea, the bike split along the undulating coast line and the run in and out of the resort on roads. The transitions are on the resort by and the first spectators show up here and there to cheer on the guests. The photo on the left shows 2005 winner Mark Derydt from Belgium, just coming out of the cave which is part of the run portion. |

Well, back to the regular training. In any case, don't forget your wetsuit. Although we have an indoor pool available about 10 minutes from the resort, most of the swim training will take place in the 25-meter outdoor pool or in the open ocean. Swimming is often the least trained split of the triathlon, but with as many options for indoor, outdoor and open water technical training at EuroCycler's camp - you'll have no excuse.
The cycling split is the longest, fastest, most expensive discipline of a triathlon. It is the only discipline where the athlete's performance is assisted or impaired by something other than him or herself. For many athletes, the technical aspects of cycling represent a skills-training hurdle that must be tackled in order to make a significant impact on triathlon results. EuroCycler's training grounds are particularly suited for this purpose. Whereas drafting is illegal in competition, our training rides are based on group cycling. If you bring your own bicycle, please dismount your aero bars. They are not suitable for this style of training and we will use them only for TimeTrial drills.
Every athlete has a particular style of running that is either technically sound or will hopelessly impair speed gains. Because running is a natural form of exercise, we can often get away with flawed techniques. For most of us, if our technically incorrect running style were converted to swimming, we would simply drown! In training, we will address the issue of achieving balance between working against yourself, to working with yourself. Our goal will be to gain economies in your running and increase your potential for greater speed.
Not to be overlooked is the discipline of maintaining proper nutrition and resting. Our coaching team will consult you on your personal training program and will help you to understand your nutritive and rest requirements.
